Part 39: Seven Floors of Radio Tower
Update 31: Seven Floors of Radio TowerRocket-Dan Takeover!
No point pissing and moaning, let's just get this over with and have a fun time while doing so.
Now that's professionalism.
"RADIO TOWER!"
: Now everyone will experience the true terror of TEAM ROCKET! We'll show you how scary we are!
Ah. Great. So you won't be too surprised to hear I'm going to sweeping over these weak Rocket grunts like I did a few times in my Yellow LP, cause fuck showing them all off. This also makes it likely this will only take one update. Hopefully.
: Our plan could be ruined. I must warn the others...
"the RADIO TOWER?"
See, unlike Silph Co., which had the most powerful Pokeball in existence, the best you could do is Rocket Propaganda? I mean, sure, the Evolution Signal and that, but we haven't heard anything about it yet.
I love that song. But yeah, you should be playing it.
And the skipping begins.

Now we're on the third floor, a new area. Let's see what exciting trainers we'll fight.
HP: 65 | ATK: 90 | DEF: 120 | SP.ATK: 85 | SP.DEF: 70 | SPD: 60 | TOTAL: 490

Who who, who who? Should get a fair few levels during this assault, because if you shove enough weak ass shit in my face, I'll eventually gain something from it.
Can't do anything there, so up to the fourth floor.
Neato.

Conversion2 (Tekusuchā 2: Texture 2) is a Normal status move with 30PP that changes the user's type in a way that resists the type of the last move it was hit by, so since I hit it with Flame Wheel, it turned into the Water type, but it also could've become a Rock type.
Okay, top floor. This is where the Director is right?
: Is this what you were expecting? Wrong! I'm an imposter! I pretended to be the real thing to prepare for our takeover. Do you want to know where we had the real DIRECTOR? Sure, I'll tell you. But only if you can beat me!
Oh man, it's a trap! And you know what this trap contains?
Not a lot of fun.
Yeesh.
: It's at the far end of the UNDERGROUND. But I'll doubt you'll get that far.
Okay, that's where our next objective is.
Goldenrod Underground
I need to remember to buy some Revival Herbs one of these days...
I can feel the edge from here.
Rival Challenge
: I saw you, so I tailed you. I don't need you underfoot while I take care of TEAM ROCKET. ...Wait a second. You beat me before, didn't you? That was just a fluke. But I repay my debts!
Rival Battle
Alright, it's been a little while since we fought Terran and his team is a lot better than before.
Though "better" can be subjective.
Ow. Wing Attack (Tsubasa de Utsu: Wing Strike) is a Flying move with 60BP, 35PP and 100% accuracy. Now that it no longer has the same BP as PECK, it's a much better move, being a good middle ground between Drill Peck. Though some Flying types get this as their best move...
Yep.
Oh, I guess I should talk about the fully evolved starters now, eh?

Unfortunately the fully evolved starter isn't too notable right now, mainly cause our team is a little bit strong. Let's see what else he has.

Eh. Next.
I realized that Jeremiah was one hit away from fainting after I opted not to take the free switch. I'm smart. But that's that.
: I've assembled the toughest POKéMON. I didn't ease up on the gas. So why do I lose?
: Is what that LANCE guy said true? That I don't treat POKéMON properly? Love... Trust... Are they really what I lack? Are they keeping me from winning? I... I just don't understand. But it's not going to end here. Not now. Not because of this. I won't give up my dream of becoming the world's best POKéMON trainer!
Goldenrod Underground
Man, I didn't mean to give the kid an existential crisis. It's just a game, man.
: You show up here, you're nothing but a victim!
Okay, time to clean out the Rockets in this area. And now we have an interesting puzzle that to this day... I have no idea how to solve it in a way that gets me everything. I'll muddle through.
There are three switches that can be turned on or off, so you just keep trying different combinations until you find your way. If you want to just proceed straight away, then just press 3-2-1 and you can skip the whole thing.
I pressed some buttons and this let me do this. I dunno.
"they finished."
: I'm searching for leftover loot.
These guys are a nice change of pace, I won't skip over them.
: What do you want to go there for? There's nothing down there.
The Smoke Ball lets a Pokemon escape from a wild battle if it's holding it, no matter what. It's a real bad item, since it's one use. I think. Someone could correct me but that means you've used this item before and aha, trap sprung! The hidden Revive, meanwhile, was a bitch to find.
Neat. One down.
You look like a fruit!
Nay, me hearties! ...why isn't there a Pirate class yet? And no, Neo Team Plasma does not count, Jim lad.
"crime, kid!"
What do you think I've been doing all game? It's all you do in RPGs!
Still not interesting.
Instead of fiddling with all these switches to reach items and that, just reach the exit and press this switch to open all the doors. Duh!
I've always found those doors weird, but now we're in the Underground's... Underground? Sure.
Item.
Rocket. Level. Man, this needs to be over soon.
This guy is still cool though.
I can't believe we had to wait this long to get one of the best hold items. The Amulet Coin doubles the money you receive at the end of the battle if your Pokemon participated. The earlier you get it, the more you benefit. The fact you get this and the Exp. Share so late is why Gen 2 is the worst gen ever.
Kakarott can hold this, since I'll probably never pick up another Charcoal.
Ah, finally. This is why I've been holding off Jeremiah's evolution for so long. Now there's nothing stopping me.
Hmm, potentially useful. Sleep Talk (Negoto) is a Normal status move that can only be used when the user is asleep. It then selects another move the Pokemon knows except for Sleep Talk and uses it, including moves that no longer have PP, as only PP for Sleep Talk is deducted. Annoyingly, if Rest is chosen in this way, the Pokemon will restore its health to full like an asshole. It also cannot select certain moves, such as Bide, Dig, Fly, Metronome, Mirror Move, Skull Bash, Sky Attack, Solarbeam or Razor Wind.
"rescue me?"
: Thank you! The RADIO TOWER! What's happening there? Taken over by TEAM ROCKET? Here. Take this CARD KEY.
"ters on 3F."
: I'm beging you to help. There's no telling what they'll do if they control the transmitter. They may even be able to control POKéMON using a special signal! You're the only one I can call on. Please save the RADIO TOWER... And all the POKéMON nationwide!
Well this all sounds pretty serious, but we'll be finishing up the Team Rocket Takeover...
Rocket-Dan Takeover!
Right now!
N-Nooooooo?
Up we go.
"through this?"
: MEOWTH, help me!
Meowth... that's wrong!
"fortress!"
: You're not taking another step!
Bring it Prot- I mean, unnamed executive! Let's see what terrifying Pokemon the fortress has!
I hate Neo Team Rocket so much.
"some advice."
: It's not too late. You can still turn back.
Like hell! There's only two more Rocket Executives to take down and this whole experience can be put behind me. Onwards!
"MAHOGANY TOWN?"
: I lost then, but I won't this time.
Maybe you could be a challenge?
Well that's something different. Glare (Hebinirami: Snake Glare) is a Normal status move with 30PP and 75% accuracy that paralyzes the opponent. It's not as good as Thunder Wave, but it can paralyze Ground types at the cost of not affecting Ghost types. So pick your poison.
Helios learned a move and it's... Future Sight (Mirai Yochi), a Psychic move with 80BP, 15PP and 90% accuracy that doesn't do anything initially, but two turns later, it hits the opponent and deals damage using the user's Special Attack and the opponent's Special Defense AT TIME OF USE, so it could do more or less damage then it would've if the opponent switches out. Despite being a Psychic move, it ignores typing and so can hit Dark types, but not receive STAB. It cannot crit, nor can it be used multiple times at once, but it can hit opponent's using Protect or Detect. It's a weird move, but it's Helios's first special move, would you believe it?

: I fought hard, but I still lost...
: A brat like you won't appreciate the magnificence of TEAM ROCKET. That's too bad. I really admire your power.
Oh great, we've made a fan. Man, let's end this already before they try and make me their leader.
: You must be quite the trainer. We intend to take over this RADIO STATION and announce our comeback. That should bring our boss GIOVANNI back from his solo training. We are going to regain our former glory. I won't allow you to interfere with our plans.
Team Rocket Battle
Okay, here's the final battle... against a nameless executive we've never met before. How's that for dramatic investment? I do like the remakes attempt to change this, but Archer ends up pretty bland because the guy he's based on is also pretty bland. Ah, whatever, I'll talk about that when we get there.

This is really the best guy in Team Rocket right now?
Alright, cool. It's been a wild ride, but this whole takeover crap has been severely uninteresting. Please go, thank you.
Unsurprisingly, I win.
: Our dreams have come to naught. I wasn't up to the task after all. Like GIOVANNI did before me, I will disband TEAM ROCKET here today. Farewell.
Oh thank god it's over.
Goldenrod City
: Your courageous actions have saved POKéMON nationwide. I know it's not much, but please take this.
Ooh, I smell a plot dump next update.
"in GOLDENROD CITY."
: But it was old and creaky. So we replaced it with our RADIO TOWER. We dug up that bell during construction. I heard that all sorts of POKéMON lived in GOLDENROD in the past. Perhaps... That bell has some connection to the TIN TOWER in ECRUTEAK CITY...
: I overheard TEAM ROCKET whispering. Apparently, something is going on at the TIN TOWER. I have no idea what is happening, but you might look into it. OK, I better go to my OFFICE.
I was more concerned about this item than the Executive, honestly. Will be useful in future.
Everything's getting back to normal again.
: Will you take this as my thanks?
: It's just right for POKéMON that know normal-type moves.
I really think this should've been a Polkadot Bow, but whatever.
Ooh, neat. I might find a use for this later.
We could give this to Kakarott, but you usually need a bit more of a justification to use weather moves. We'll see.
: You know, I love POKéMON. I built this RADIO TOWER so I could express my love of POKéMON. It would be nice if people enjoyed our programs.
: The DIRECTOR is nice again, just as he was before.
Hmm, funny that. Anyway, we're nearly done, but there's just one last thing to do in the Radio Tower.
: Hmm... There isn't a prize for hitting 30 points, but... You came by so often, MARINA. I'll make you a special deal! How would you like my phone number?
Hell yeah! (Goddamn this was a bitch to grind for...)
: I look forward to hearing from you!
Phew. There we go, all done. While it wasn't a huge amount of fun, we got some good experience, some neat items and saw some new Pokemon. Overall, I'd be fine with not doing that again. Anyway, there's something going on at the Tin Tower? Sure. Sounds good. Next time.
